Today Janina Pietrasiak and Maria Lopuszanska live like sisters. They meet daily and help each others. Maria’s parents were anti-Nazi underground activists, they sheltered Janina and her mother. Janina's mother soon died of tuberculosis. Then Janina was adopted by a family and was baptized to avoid being killed by Nazis. She gave up the chance to live with an uncle in the United States because that family saved her. They need to take care of themselves since Maria's parents were busy. They experience the cruelty of the war. Janina lost the most, her entire family did not survive the war. Years passed, Janina suffered from depression. She was married to a Roman Catholic brought but she was disgusted by his discrimination against Jews and they separated. Maria live on pension but it was insufficient. After the war she became an economist. Janina contacted a museum in Jerusalem, Maria and her parents were recognized and Maria was rewarded with money as well.
